We hope the committee will be a place in which we can support you in your work in your community\, a place to connect with other advocates\, and also a chance to advise Perinatal Support WA to ensure the issues that matter to your community are represented.   \n  \nState Chapter Advisory Committee Description \nThis is a working committee that guides the state chapter. The objective of the committee is to be a structure for advocates across the state to join the conversation and be a liaison for their community\, and to work together to improve perinatal mental health resources in more communities. The committee is a place in which we can support you in your work in your community\, a place to connect with other advocates\, and also a chance to advise Perinatal Support WA to ensure the issues that matter to your community are represented. Therefore\, most childbirth professionals and educators will encounter this tragic experience during the course of their careers. If more intensive care is needed\, a mental health professional can be added to provide consultation or direct care. The overall goal for healing is healthy integration of this traumatic experience within a stable support system. \nThis extremely sensitive material is presented in a safe and supportive environment which facilitates participant learning and self-awareness. PS-WA is hosting a half day training for others who work with families during the perinatal period\, information and registration on that training can be found here. \nDid you know? \n20-25% of all pregnancies do not survive to a healthy live birth. Therefore\, most psychotherapists treating adults in their reproductive years will encounter this tragic experience. The ideal course of treatment is for the client to remain with his or her trusted psychotherapist as long as the therapist has basic competency in care following pregnancy loss. The overall therapeutic goal is healthy integration of this traumatic experience. \nThis small group intensive workshop provides a foundation of essential medical knowledge to build specialty skills in clinical evaluation and intervention. This extremely sensitive material is presented in a safe and supportive environment which facilitates participant learning\, self-awareness and self-care. Lecture and video will address these topics: best practice in the medical setting\, medical terminology and procedures\, patterns of perinatal grief\, normal trajectory of grief and differential diagnosis. SUMMARY:Indigenous Womxn's Mental Health During the Childbearing Year
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, March 2\, 2020\n12:00pm-1:30pm FREE \nPresenter: Camie Jae Goldhammer\, MSW\, LICSW\, IBCLC\nIndigenous Women in WA state face a complex tapestry of risk factors and protective factors during the childbearing year. Historical trauma\, lived experiences of trauma\, racism\, and poverty lead to a high prevalence of medical and mental health complications during this period. Childbearing and motherhood are also opportunities for growth\, health\, and healing. Indegenous womxn have a rich history to draw from to help support and heal through reclaiming traditional practices such as breastfeeding and indigenous parenting practices. This webinar will look at these issues as well as treatment implications and strategies for support mental health throughout the perinatal period. \n**This training is open to anyone working with childbearing families. \nCamie Jae Goldhammer\, MSW\, LICSW\, IBCLC\, (Sisseton-Wahpeton) is a Clinical Social Worker and Lactation Consultant. Camie received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Washington in 2006\, specializing in Maternal Mood Disorders and the affects of complex/Intergenerational trauma on attachment\, bonding and the parenting practices of Native families.  \nRegister for this free training in advance. SUMMARY:Intimacy and Sex in the Childbearing Year – An Evening Clinical Discussion
DESCRIPTION:This evening clinical meeting is an interactive presentation and discussion on the changes in intimacy and sex a couple face and how to support a couple during the perinatal period. \nTopics will include women’s physiological changes\, impact of the birth experience on the couples’ future intimacy\, rebuilding connection after the baby and discussion of skill building techniques to navigate the transition. \nThe Evening Clinical Meeting Series meets quarterly. Cost: $20.\nAttendance is free for Perinatal Support Washington members and volunteers.\n**This training is open to anyone working with families during the perinatal period.\n6:30pm Networking\n6:45- 8:30pm training \nSpeaker: Nancy Owens\, MA\, LMHC\, CST \nObjectives: \n\nTo understand the physiological changes of women in the postpartum period and how that impacts a couples intimacy.\nTo understand the impact of the birth experience on couples’ future intimacy.\nBe able to identify and explain skill building techniques to help a couple manage the change in intimacy after a baby.\n\nContinuing Education:\n1.75 CEUs approved for LICSWs\, LMHCs\, and LMFTs\n1.75 Contact hours are available for RNs \n“This Program has been approved for 1.75 CEUs for Licensed Social Workers\, Mental Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists by the Washington State Society for Clinical Social Work.” \nProvider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing\, Provider Number 17084 for 1.75 contact hours.\nNancy Owen is a certified sex therapist and sex educator with a private practice in Kirkland\, WA\, With over 25 years experience working as a psychotherapist\, Nancy has a passion for helping adult couples and individuals achieve healthier\, more connected relationships with themselves and others. Nancys specialties include postpartum/perinatal work\, kink/erotic conflicts\, and religious/spiritual issues related to sexual shame\, as well as working with those from the LGBTQIA communities and consensually non-monogamous families. \nThis training and our Perinatal Support Washington Evening Clinical Training series is cosponsored by Simkin Center at Bastyr University. \nPerinatal Support Washington is a state-wide non-profit dedicated to shining a light on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
