Special Topics in Perinatal Mental Health

This training is for Washington state providers who practice IN Whatcom and/or Skagit Counties. **REGISTRATION IS FULL**

During this 2-day training, clinical & non-clinical professionals will learn how the perinatal context affects parental mental health. This will include evidence-based interventions aimed at the prevention, support, and treatment of families from pregnancy to postpartum.

Open to any professional interested in learning more about how to provide support to a
parent. Both sessions (Oct. 17 & 18th) will have a clinical focus that is appropriate for professionals who are new to perinatal mental health treatment and those looking to expand their knowledge of perinatal mental health, as well as non-clinical professionals interested in perinatal mental health topics. Register for one or both days, lunch is provided.

  • 12 CEUs approved for LICWs, LMHCs, and LMFTs.
  • This Program has been approved for 12 CEUs for Licensed Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists by the Washington State Society for Clinical Social Work.
  • 12 Contact hours available for RNs
  • Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 17084 for 12 contact hours

About the Speakers:

Dr. Meyleen Velasquez, LICSW, is an immigrant Latina psychotherapist specializing in perinatal and infant mental health. Meyleen has a doctorate in social work and focused her research on anti-racist and anti-oppressive mental health services. Her practice supports birthing people and clinicians working from an anti-oppressive framework. Meyleen identified as a Brown person for most of her life until several years ago when Vitiligo changed how she navigates the world.

Leslie Butterfield, PhD is a clinical psychologist who specializes in pregnancy and postpartum issues. At her Seattle, WA private practice she works with moms and couples struggling with pregnancy and neonatal loss, the transition to parenthood, pregnancy and postpartum mood disorders, and birth related trauma.  Additionally, she has designed and taught the counseling skills curriculum for Seattle Midwifery School and Bastyr Naturopathic University’s Department of Midwifery for the past 15 years.

In her capacity as an educator, Leslie has provided trainings and consultations to: University of Washington; Singapore KKH Hospital for Women; AWHONN (Association of Womens Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses); Marcé Society; PALS (Pacific Association of Labor Support); API (Attachment Parenting International), NAPS (Northwest Association for Postpartum Support), Catholic Charities, Planned Parenthood, and others.  Recently she has served on the board of PATTCh (Prevention and Treatment of Traumatic Childbirth) as Vice President, and Perinatal Support Washington as the former chair and current board member.
