She has been a Certified Postpartum Doula and Certified Lactation Educator for over twelve years\, and the recipient of the prestigious DONA International Penny Simkin Award in 2006. Heidi is also the proud mother of 2 beautiful daughters. \nLeslie Butterfield\, PhD is a clinical psychologist who specializes in pregnancy and postpartum issues. At her Seattle\, WA private practice she works with moms and couples struggling with pregnancy and neonatal loss\, the transition to parenthood\, pregnancy and postpartum mood disorders\, and birth related trauma.  Additionally\, she has designed and taught the counseling skills curriculum for Seattle Midwifery School and Bastyr Naturopathic Universitys Department of Midwifery for the past 15 years. \nIn her capacity as an educator\, Leslie has provided trainings and consultations to: University of Washington; Singapore KKH Hospital for Women; AWHONN(Association of Womens Health\, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses); Marce Society; PALS (Pacific Association of Labor Support); API (Attachment Parenting International)\, NAPS (Northwest Association for Postpartum Support)\, Catholic Charities\, Planned Parenthood\, and others.  Recently she has served on the board of PATTCh (Prevention and Treatment of Traumatic Childbirth) as Vice President\, and Perinatal Support Washington as the former chair and current board member.

DESCRIPTION:The Parent Education & Resilience Collaborative (PERC) Presents:\nPromoting Parental Resilience through the Childbearing Period; Supporting Parents with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders \nA New Training Program for Mental Health Providers funded by Best Starts for Kids to provide workforce development to providers in King County. \nApril 7th 9:00 am – 5:00 pm\nApril 9th  9:00 am – 5:00 pm\nOnline via Zoom. \nLearn how to effectively identify\, support and care for parents experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. This two-day training is appropriate for mental health providers who work with childbearing people in King Co. \nThis training is designed to provide mental health therapists with a comprehensive understanding of and intervention for perinatal mental health complications. This training will have a focus on mental health care that is culturally responsive and sensitive.  Learn how to provide meaningful and respectful care\,  learn to create culturally attuned wellness plans that include effective self-care and wellness strategies\,  learn about effective evidenced based interventions to treat perinatal mental health complications\, and provide important psycho-education to parents to help them learn about often misunderstood experiences in the perinatal period. \nProgram Objectives:\nSupport mental health therapists already serving childbearing people to better treat perinatal mental health complications such as postpartum depression/anxeity/trauma/etc.\nProvide high quality perinatal mental health support to communities that have systematically lacked access to this specialized care.\nTrain professionals of color working within their communities\, to increase access to culturally matched services. \nThis training is lead by BIPOC Perinatal Mental Health Specialists: Meyleen Valesquez\, LICSW and Dr Kendra Carter- Flores (see below for full bios)\nAny provider is welcome to attend this training where BIPOC providers’ and families’ experiences will be centered. \nOptional Learning Collaboratives: Once a Month June- Dec\nFollowing attendance at the 2-day training we invite professionals who would like to deepen their practice\, to join small group learning collaboratives. Collaboratives will provide a community of practice for 6-12 mental health professionals working within similar communities. She is a social work doctoral student focusing her research on anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices in mental health. Her practice supports individuals identifying as women and clinicians working on practicing from an anti-oppressive framework. She sits on the Board of the Washington Association for Infant Mental Health and has served as the Chair for the Florida Chapter of Postpartum Support International and as the past President of the Florida Association for Play Therapy. She enjoys training\, speaking\, and writing and believes that the more we can support each other\, the better for our communities. \nDr. Kendra Flores-Carter \nKendra is a Published Author\, Professor of Social Work at California Baptist University and a Researcher in the Social and Behavioral Science. An advocate for social justice and change\, she has dedicated her career to helping bring awareness to disparities in health and various issues affecting women and children. A former Medical Social Worker for over 10 years she was tasked to provide services to children suffering from trauma related to child abuse and women experiencing significant life crisis such as Intimate Partner Violence\, Substance Abuse Complications\, Incarceration\, Homelessness\, and Mental Illness. Locally\, nationally\, and internationally Dr. Flores-Carter has presented her research\, trained professionals\, and facilitated workshops on various health related topics. Dr. Flores-Carter is the current President of the Postpartum Support International California State Chapter and Co-Chairs the Inland Empire Maternal Mental Health Collaborative. SUMMARY:Pregnancy Loss for Psychotherapists: Tools\, Clinical Skills and Diagnostic Controversies
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Deborah Rich\, PhD\, LP \nThis 4 week webinar is intended for therapists. PS-WA is hosting a half day training for others who work with families during the perinatal period\, information and registration on that training can be found here. \nDid you know? \n20-25% of all pregnancies do not survive to a healthy live birth. Therefore\, most psychotherapists treating adults in their reproductive years will encounter this tragic experience. The ideal course of treatment is for the client to remain with his or her trusted psychotherapist as long as the therapist has basic competency in care following pregnancy loss. The overall therapeutic goal is healthy integration of this traumatic experience. \nThis small group intensive workshop provides a foundation of essential medical knowledge to build specialty skills in clinical evaluation and intervention. This extremely sensitive material is presented in a safe and supportive environment which facilitates participant learning\, self-awareness and self-care. Lecture and video will address these topics: best practice in the medical setting\, medical terminology and procedures\, patterns of perinatal grief\, normal trajectory of grief and differential diagnosis. Historical trauma\, lived experiences of trauma\, racism\, and poverty lead to a high prevalence of medical and mental health complications during this period. Childbearing and motherhood are also opportunities for growth\, health\, and healing. Indegenous womxn have a rich history to draw from to help support and heal through reclaiming traditional practices such as breastfeeding and indigenous parenting practices.
