SUMMARY:Embracing Every Parent: Engaging Non-Birthing Parents in Perinatal Support
DESCRIPTION:This training is open to WA state professionals who serve perinatal families in Washington state. Priority registration for professionals who serve families in San Juan County. \nFor LGBTQIA+ parents\, adoptive parents\, and dads\, welcoming a baby can leave new parents feeling less than welcome in perinatal spaces; these feelings of invisibility can leave non-birthing parents feeling disconnected and increase their vulnerability to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. In this all-day virtual training\, we will embark on a deep dive into engaging non-birthing parents in support throughout the perinatal period. The training will include a review of perinatal mental health for all parents\, with a deep dive on the unique experiences\, strengths\, and challenges of non-birthing parents\, as well as practical resources for screening\, referral\, and support. Participants can look forward to an interactive training that will include breakout activities\, real-life examples\, and a spotlight from PS-WA dad peer specialist Nathan Friend on the magic of peer support and what he wishes everyone knew about supporting dads. Attendees will come away with concrete strategies to engage non-birthing parents in support. \nDate: Thursday\, April 30\, 2026 \nTime: 9am-4pm PT \nLocation: Zoom \nCost: FREE \nTrainers: Lara Hayden\, MSW\, LICSW and Nathan Friend \nLearning Objectives: \n\nParticipants will be able to name 5 perinatal mood and anxiety disorders affecting birthing and non-birthing parents.\nParticipants will be able to describe 3 unique psychosocial challenges faced by non-birthing parents in the perinatal period.\nParticipants will be able to identify 4 resources to provide effective and affirming support to non-birthing parents throughout Washington.\n\nRegister Now\nContinuing Education: \n\n5.5 CEUs pending for LICSW\, LMHC\, LMFT.\n5.5 Contact Hours approved for RNs: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing\, Provider Number 17084 for 5.5 contact hours.\n\nAbout the Trainer: \nLara Hayden (they/them) graduated from the UW School of Social Work with a Masters in Social Work in 2010; they are a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and an Approved Supervisor for Washington State mental health professionals seeking licensure. In their private practice\, Lara offers evaluations and reports along with groups\, clinical supervision and training. Specifically\, Lara provides social work home study reports for confirmatory adoptions\, fertility and family build support\, as well as gender-affirming care documentation. They have worked in multidisciplinary care settings for over a decade\, supporting individuals\, families\, and providers in navigating the complexities of medical and mental health care. Their clinical interests include LGBTQ+ family building\, gender-affirming care\, eating disorder care\, and neurodiversity. Lara is a fat queer agender person who uses they/them pronouns. They are a parent of three kids\, an enthusiastic road trip planner\, and really into spreadsheets. \nThis free training is offered by Perinatal Support WA through a grant from Strengthening Families Washington at the Department of Children\, Youth\, and Families (DCYF). \nThis is a live training and will not be recorded. There is no definition or level of being “enough Latinx.” All are welcome who have a familial connection to Latinx culture. Our online groups help you connect with other parents\, talk about your experience\, and learn about helpful tools and resources. Whether you are going through stress\, adjustment to parenting\, baby blues\, pregnancy or postpartum depression/anxiety\, our groups are here for you. We have a weekly support group\, Latinx Support every Thursday\, 1st & 3rd @ 4:30p; 2nd & 4th @ 12p\, PST. \nThis group is for anyone pregnant or postpartum (up to two years) and identifies as Latina\, Latinx\, or Latino. There is no definition or level of being “enough Latinx.” All are welcome who have a familial connection to Latinx culture. Our online groups help you connect with other parents\, talk about your experience\, and learn about helpful tools and resources. Whether you are going through stress\, adjustment to parenting\, baby blues\, pregnancy or postpartum depression/anxiety\, our groups are here for you. SUMMARY:May You Be Held with Love and Care: Perinatal Mental Health for Latine and Immigrant Families
DESCRIPTION:This training is open to WA state professionals who work with perinatal families in WA state.  \nCulturally Responsive and Community-Centered Approaches for Supporting Birthing Parents\, Infants\, and Families. \nPerinatal mental health is deeply connected to the well-being of birthing parents\, infants\, partners\, and families. Latine and immigrant communities bring with them unique strengths and cultural values that are often dismissed or silenced by systemic barriers\, and these experiences can shape how perinatal mental health is experienced and supported. \nThis training will explore perinatal mental health through the lens of Latine and immigrant family experiences\, highlighting cultural beliefs\, community traditions\, possible stigma in the community\, and structural barriers that may impact access to care. A particular focus will be placed on elevating indigenous practices that have supported and nurtured birthing parents\, leading to healing and positive outcomes. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how migration\, family separation\, economic stressors\, discrimination\, and language barriers can influence mental health during pregnancy and the postpartum period. \nParticipants will learn how to recognize signs that mental health may be impacted for birthing parents and partners\, and how infant and early childhood mental health is closely connected to caregiver wellbeing. The training will emphasize culturally responsive\, community-based ways of caring for families\, including approaches that honor cultural traditions\, community networks\, and collective resilience. \nParticipants will also learn about screening tools\, referral pathways\, therapy options\, medication considerations\, and culturally relevant community supports that can help families access care. She is an EMDRIA-certified EMDR therapist\, a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Therapist\, and the founder and clinical director of Mente Counseling & Consultation\, where she provides trauma-focused psychotherapy\, consultation\, and community-based trainings.
