Foundations in Perinatal Mental Health

Open to WA state providers with priority given to providers practicing IN Kittitas, Stevens/Ferry & San Juan Counties. This training covers key concepts and practices in the prevention, identification and treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), as well as how to link parents to support and treatment. In this training we will discuss the risk factors, etiology, and symptomatology of PMADs, high risk populations for experiencing PMADs, medication in the perinatal period, screening tools, effective referral, and resource and referrals. Community discussion for each county will be held in the afternoon.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Learn about the Spectrum of Perinatal Mental Health
  • Screen a parent for risk factors leading to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders by identifying at least four risk factors.
  • Screen a parent for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders by identifying at least three symptoms.
  • Describe medications used during pregnancy and breastfeeding to treat perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
  • Learn about local resources for new parent support.

Continuing Education:

  • 6.5 CEU’s approved for LICSWs, LMHCs, and LMFTs.
  • This Program has been approved for 6.5 CEUs for Licensed Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists by the Washington State Society for Clinical Social Work.
  • 6.5 Contact hours available for RNs. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 17084 for 6.5 contact hours

About the Trainer:

Michelle Anderson, LMHC, PMH-C, is the owner of Mobile Mama Strategies, a group counseling practice based in Bellingham, Washington that focuses on Therapy, Training for providers and Tools for Motherhood. Additionally, Michelle is a trainer and consultant for Perinatal Support Washington, teaching their 10-month long Advanced PMH Training and Consultation courses. In her work over the last 15 years, Michelle has designed simple and effective Tools for Mothers (and parents) based on a trauma-informed, mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach.
