Implementing Compassionate Perinatal Mental Health Screening and Referral
This training is for Washington state providers who practice IN Pierce County.
This training covers the emotional adjustment to parenthood, including key concepts and practices in effective screening and referral of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). We will discuss the increase in risk factors and etiology/symptomatology of PMADs, high risk populations for experiencing PMADs, screening tools, treatment options, and supporting our clients as they navigate access to care. This training is appropriate for a range of providers who work with parents and people in the perinatal period including peers, home visitors, doulas, community health workers and midwives.

- Introduce and discuss the spectrum of mental health disorders
- Understand the “real” transition to parenthood
- Assess a client for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders by identifying symptoms
- Identify experiences that increase risk, using cultural humility and an intersectionality lense
- Provide meaningful and respective screening for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
- Effectively make referrals and support parents to access resources
